The project proposed a new extension to an existing cottage house in Tarholm Annbank, a small village in Ayrshire. The design took inspiration from traditional Scottish timber construction, which is reflected both internally and externally through expressed timber beams and columns, while integrating a slate roof for weather resistance and skylight to allow for natural daylight penetration throughout the day. An exterior concrete patio, accessed by a double exterior door was an aspect the client favoured greatly, to allow for use or the garden space in the summer periods.

Internally, timber floors and ceilings aimed to create a warm and inviting feel, while grey concrete plastered walls and concrete kitchen counter would create a minimalist and raw feel. Regular openings to the back garden would allow one to enjoy views of the woodland beyond during all seasons, while cooking, eating and relaxing.

The project has been designed and executed between periods 2016-2017 and is now built  and is in use by the client. This work was created during employment at CASA Design Architects.

All work shown was produced as part of a design team and remains property of CASA Design Architects and all other relevant parties.
